A LIV Golf club has secured a crypto sponsorship for the rest of its 2023 season.

OKX, a global cryptocurrency platform and derivatives exchange, announced it has signed an endorsement deal with Majesticks GC. Majesticks are a European-centric team on LIV featuring Ian Poulter, Henrik Stenson, Lee Westwood, Sam Horsfield (currently injured) and Laurie Canter. According to a press release, “OKX, Majesticks GC and LIV Golf share a common drive to disrupt sectors using fresh thinking and new technology.”

“We both have ambitions not only to win but to challenge the status quo,” Poulter said in a statement. “The partnership will result in some amazing experiences for fans to go behind-the-scenes with us as we pursue our mission to make a difference both on and off the course.”

The Majesticks are currently second-to-last in LIV Golf’s team standings, and Stenson is the highest-ranked player (25th) in the 52-player individual standings.

The announcement comes two weeks after the shocking news that the PGA Tour and LIV Golf’s backer, the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, announced a planned partnership to form a new entity. LIV Golf was left out of the initial press release from the tour and PIF, begging the question what role LIV will have in the new entity, and PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said he doesn’t envision LIV Golf events running concurrently to tour events in 2024.

However, LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman—who wasn’t told about the proposed deal until minutes before it was announced—told LIV Golf staffers and players that LIV Golf “isn’t going anywhere” and remains in the planning stages for future seasons. LIV Golf is halfway through its second season, with seven more events on its schedule. The next event is in Spain, beginning June 30.
