LIV Golf has been active within the past month creating ways for fans to engage with its product.
It announced a partnership a few weeks ago to promote live, in-play gambling. And on Wednesday, the Saudi-backed circuit announced the creation of LIV Golf Fantasy, where fans can create and join leagues, draft LIV golfers and see how their lineup stacks up against their friends and people around the world.
Prizes for the leading points-getters on a season-long and weekly level include hospitality passes to upcoming events of the winner’s choosing, credit to the LIV merchandise store and autographs from players. Public and private leagues can also be created to compete against a smaller group.
“LIV Golf’s new fantasy game is another way to deliver on a core focus of our league: bringing new audiences to the sport through fun, creative opportunities that engage with fans around the world,” said LIV Golf CEO and commissioner Greg Norman.
Team owners construct their fantasy squad by selecting one of the current LIV Golf League captains, three other starters amongst non-captains, one alternate, as well as one LIV team. The captain, three starters and selected team will be the starting lineup for the first round of the event.
If they wish, team owners can adjust their lineup before the second and third rounds and substitute their alternate in for one of the four starters. Each player or team score to par equals fantasy points allocated.
“We are just scratching the surface on the possibilities with team golf,” said Norman, “and building fantasy teams with the game’s biggest stars is a natural tie-in for fans who love the thrill of team sports and competing with each other.”
Players 16 years and older can sign up at fantasy.livgolf.com and set a lineup for this weekend’s LIV Golf event at The Old White at The Greenbrier.
