How popular is Tiger Woods’ comeback right now? Even his ex-girlfriend is cheering for him.
Lindsey Vonn had (mostly) kind words for her former boyfriend in a new profile on the superstar skier written by Sports Illustrated’s Tim Layden. You should read the entire piece that delves into all the scars – both physical and mental – that Vonn is trying to overcome as the 2018 Winter Olympics approach, but this quote about Woods caught our attention for obvious reasons.
“I loved him and we’re still friends. Sometimes, I wish he would have listened to me a little more, but he’s very stubborn and he likes to go his own way,” Vonn told Layden. “I hope this latest comeback sticks. I hope he goes back to winning tournaments.”
Woods recently returned to competitive golf after sitting out most of 2017 with a bad back injury that required a fourth surgery last April. He recently announced he’ll tee it up next at the Farmers Insurance Open (January 25-28), his first official US PGA Tour start since missing the cut in the same event last year.
Vonn and Woods had one of the more scrutinised sports relationships in recent history before Vonn announced the power couple was “mutually” breaking up in a Facebook post in May of 2015.
“It’s hard enough to break up with a boyfriend,” says Lindsey’s sister Karin in the S.I. article, “without having to issue a press release about it.”
