There’s nothing golf fans love more than a good “Tour pros are just like us!” story. And what fits that bill more than a tour pro impulse buying a cheap training aid he saw online?

Seriously, raise your hand if you’ve ever done the same. I know my hand is raised right now. Desperate times call for desperate measures. And even the best golfers turn to training aids for help sometimes.

Such was the case for Michael Johnson. A pro golfer with more than $US1 million in career earnings spotted on the range at a Korn Ferry Tour event using a $20 training aid he bought on Amazon. Have a look:

“This was an impulse buy,” Johnson explains in the video. “I think I missed a cut somewhere. I was like, I’ll just get this, it’ll work, and it’s been pretty good.”

As Johnson explains, he uses it when practising his wedges to stay more connected (you can also try other drills like this one from two-time PGA Tour winner Davis Riley, if you don’t want to buy anything) and control his wrist angles.

“Just a normal, missed-cut Amazon buy,” added Johnson, who is currently 37th on the Korn Ferry season-long points list and 377th on the Official World Golf Ranking. “I’m just a normal person like any other golfer. Just trying to get better.”

Sometimes tour pros really are just like us after all.
