Karis Davidson has continued a strong run of form, recording a career-best major finish with a tie for 12th at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship as South Korea’s Haeran Ryu secured her first major title at Hazeltine National Golf Club.

Ryu completed a remarkable comeback, overcoming a 10-shot deficit and climbing 69 spots on the leaderboard to secure a two-shot victory for her first major title and fourth LPGA Tour win.

The 25-year-old opened with a one-over 73 to sit tied for 70th, 10 shots behind fellow South Korean Ina Yoon, who fired a stunning opening-round 63.

Ryu reshaped the championship over the next two days, carding rounds of 64 and 68 to go 12-under across Friday and Saturday and take a one-shot lead.

She sealed the title with a composed two-under 70 on Sunday, finishing at 13-under, two clear of Yoon in second.

In back-to-back major championships, Davidson finished as the highest-placed Australian and improved her best major result, with a tied-22nd finish at the US Women’s Open three weeks ago surpassing her previous mark of tied 47th at last year’s KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, before bettering it again this week.

After opening with a career-best LPGA Tour round of seven-under 65 to sit alone in second, the Queenslander was unable to maintain that pace, adding rounds of 74, 71 and a closing one-over 73 to finish five-under-par. Her total left her one shot outside the top 10 in a tie for 12th.

The week continues her best season on the LPGA Tour since joining in 2022. The 27-year-old has not missed a cut in 11 starts, recorded a best finish of equal fifth at the Aramco Championship and finished as the leading Australian in consecutive majors.

New Zealand’s Lydia Ko finished one stroke behind in a share of 15th at four-under, recovering impressively from an opening 76 with rounds of 69-69-70.

Grace Kim was unable to build momentum throughout the week, posting rounds of 72-71-72-72 to finish at one-under-par in a tie for 24th.

Robyn Choi began the final round at even-par but closed with a three-over 75 to finish tied for 48th.
