Jon Rahm has withdrawn from LIV Golf’s team championship.

Ahead of its season finale in Dallas this weekend, LIV released a statement that the two-time major champ has pulled out of its event, citing flu-like symptoms.

In his place will be LIV alternate John Catlin. Rahm was LIV’s signature signing for its third-season, reportedly defecting to the Saudi-backed circuit for over $US300 million after insisting for years that he wasn’t interested in LIV. He heads his own club named “Legion XIII” that finished second in the league’s regular-season standings.

The WD is the latest in an up-and-down season for Rahm. He struggled at the Masters, missed the cut at the PGA Championship and pulled out of the US Open due to a toe infection.

Rahm bounced back with a top-10 at the Open and contended for a gold medal during the Paris Olympics before faltering down the stretch to miss the podium.

Conversely, Rahm won two times against LIV’s 52-player fields in 2024 and took the league’s individual title last week. Rahm recently appealed his DP World Tour sanctions over his jump to LIV, with the hopes of keeping his 2025 Ryder Cup hopes alive, although stated he has no intention of paying his fines.

LIV will hand out $US50 million for its team championship this weekend. It will feature eight teams and 32 players, with two singles and one foursome pairing for each match.
