JASON Day could be our new world No.1 golfer on Monday. We know, we’re getting ahead ourselves.
But why not? The 27-year-old Queenslander holds a six-shot lead heading into the final round of the BMW Championship in Illinois.
In the third round of the third FedEx Cup playoffs event, Day seemed ‘off’ with the driver for his standards and only hit three fairways on the back nine, but the US PGA Champion managed a 2-under par round of 69.
It leaves Day on 20-under par, with Americans Scott Piercy and Daniel Berger at 14-under and world No.1 Rory McIlroy a shot back.
If Day, who leads the FedExCup, goes on to win the BMW Championship on Sunday, he will finally take his place at the top of the Official World Golf Ranking regardless of where the current No. 1, Rory McIlroy, or No. 2 Jordan Spieth finish.
