Bronson Burgoon started the final round of the Quicken Loans National in Maryland six shots off the lead.

He didn’t win.

This is not a winner’s story. Italian stallion Francesco Molinari obliterated the field at TPC Potomac, winning by eight shots for his first US PGA Tour title.

But if you forget the $US1,278,000 and two-year exemption on the US PGA Tour, Burgoon had more fun than Molinari during final round of the event near Washington, DC.

Burgoon, a 31-year-old from Texas, played alongside 14-time major winner Tiger Woods on Sunday.

That’s nice.

But he also shot 67 and his share of sixth place secured the last of four exemptions to the British Open given to the leading four players inside the top 12 at Quicken Loans who were not already qualified for Carnoustie.

“One of the most enjoyable rounds I’ve ever played in my life,” Burgoon said.

“(Woods) made it so low key. We talked the whole way around. He’s a true gentleman. He’s in my opinion the greatest golfer ever to play, so it was one of my best rounds I’ve ever played.”

Oh, Burgoon also pocketed $US246,725 for his finish. That’s also nice.
