DYNAPWR

What it does: The concept for these fairway woods came from the best tour players in the world, but Wilson’s engineers sought an even higher source to get them to the finished product. High-speed computers running hundreds of virtual prototypes produced the multi-faceted face thickness that maximises ball speed from heel to toe. That’s not to say the input from tour players was trivial. On the contrary, the flatter profile and shallower face they suggested provide a confidence-inspiring setup across a variety of lies.

Why we like it: Tour players are cool. So is artificial intelligence. But a fairway wood that’s easier to hit is cooler still, like other-side-of-the-pillow cool. In short, it’s not so simple that a tour player or even a computer could do it. Wilson’s team chipped away at various parts of the design, taking the AI face and the tour-level shaping for sure. But then they had to find new ways to save weight. This meant
segmenting a crown into four sections thinner than a credit card.
Internally, the unique mix of a heavy mass towards the face and a
12-gram weight screw in the rear gives average golfers the stability on mis-hits they need with the low spin better players crave.

“There’s a lot of hitting area with a lot of forgiveness. Quiet power – almost like a martial artist in a business suit.”
