0211 Z

What it does: Designing a set of irons that makes the beginning golfer want to continue playing isn’t easy. It’s not that the occasional or beginning golfer’s average mis-hits are unplayable; it’s that they’re often barely hits at all. We’re talking swings that strike the turf before the ball. It’s the shots off the ground that challenge beginning players with slower swing speeds the most. That’s why the irons in the 0211 Z set are low profile and have the widest sole of any PXG iron ever. The wider back section of these irons features a darker PVD coating to mask some of the substantial bulk.

Why we like it: Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: the look is a lot to take in, but we suggest you get over it. These are crazy easy to hit. Are you going to carve the 7-iron into a back-right pin? No, but if you have that skill, these aren’t for you anyway. Instead, you’re going to get the kind of height that makes it seem as if the ball is on an escalator going up. Part of that is the construction. Unlike other PXG irons, the 0211 Z is completely hollow and does not use a polymer inside the head. Why? The clubhead is so large that filling it with polymer would make the club too heavy.

7-iron loft 31 degrees; pw loft 45 degrees

Reviewer profile

“The distance is such a standout. The heft acts like a turbo pack on the club to launch it high and send it far. A piercing ball flight that doesn’t balloon.”
