Quick question: how much is the purse for this week’s Tour Championship? If you said $0, you’re technically right. Officially, there was no tournament prizemoney payout this week at East Lake Golf Club. What players are competing for is money from the FedEx Cup bonus pool distributed for their finishes in the season-long points race that culminated today. It’s why no player’s career PGA Tour earnings will increase as a result of anything that happens at East Lake.
Of course, all this is just semantics. The format change initiated for the Tour Championship in 2019 has the finish at the Tour Championship aligning with the finish in the final FedEx Cup standings. Essentially, then, that bonus money amounts to a tournament purse.
And that purse is very, VERY large.
With his one-shot victory in Atlanta, Patrick Cantlay was the big winner in the season-long FedEx Cup race, earning $US15 million after closing with a closing 69. Cantlay had won almost $2 million the past two weeks with a win at the BMW Championship ($US1.7 million) and a T-11 at the Northern Trust ($US203,775).

Below is the prizemoney payout for each golfer in the final FedEx Cup standings after the conclusion of the Tour Championship. As with regular PGA Tour events, money is split equally among players if there are ties for different places in this last event of the 2020-2021 PGA Tour season.
One additional note: every player in the FedEx Cup top 150 earns some distribution from the bonus pool. It’s why the list below has far more names than just the 30 competing in the Tour Championship.
