From time to time, we like to share a blooper from one of the best golfers in the world and jokingly declare that “Tour pros are just like us!” But at one event this week, that saying might actually apply more than ever.
That’s because golfers playing in the Asian Tour’s Taiwan Glass Taifong Open will have to open their wallets if they want to hit range balls. And not only that, but they’ll also have to do a bit of travelling for the pleasure!
We were first alerted to this wild situation by (of course) Ryan French, a.k.a. Monday Q Info on Twitter/X. French shared a tournament memo to players alerting them that there would be three indoor hitting bays and three other nets (not a lot for a field of 120 players!) and that a “range is not available on-site”. However, “There is a public range nearby and available for use at own cost” and players “are to arrange own transport”. Welcome to our world!

Not exactly the PGA Tour, where players have their pick of range-ball brand now, is it? But again, this isn’t some one-day, shotgun start event at your local public track. This is an Asian Tour event with a $US400,000 purse at stake.
But as us regular weekend hacks know, when it comes to warming up, sometimes less is more. So it might not be worth the time and money to hit a few balls down the road. Anyway, good luck to everyone in the field jockeying for position on the Asian Tour moneylist—and jockeying for position around one of those hitting bays.
