World No.67 Luke List is a name you should now be accustomed to seeing on leaderboards if you watch the US PGA Tour regularly.

He’s even high on a leaderboard at the moment – one shot back of 54-hole leader Ian Poulter at the RBC Heritage at the famed Harbour Town Golf Links. List matched Poulter’s third round score of 67 to be tied second at 12 under with Si Woo Kim.

The big-hitting List, who ranks third on the US PGA Tour for driving distance with an average of 315.8 yards, seemingly turned a corner in February when he sought advice from former AFL and VFL player Brett ‘Moose’ Stephens.

That’s right, a former Aussies rules player.

The connection was set up by List’s caddie, Australian bagman Matthew ‘Bussy’ Tritton – who also carried the clubs for Perth rookie Curtis Luck in 2017.

Having trouble harnessing his prodigious power, List had an extended phone call with Stephens during the Genesis Open in Los Angeles and, the following week, got himself into a sudden-death playoff at the Honda Classic which he lost to Justin Thomas.

“I actually have been having some conversations recently with a guy named Brett Stevens, or Moose,” List said at the Honda Classic.

“He lives in Melbourne and he’s friends with my caddie, Bussie.

“I got to a point (earlier this year), when I was like, what am I even doing; I’m flushing it and putting well, but I’m not scoring and I’m not in the right head space.

“(Bussie said) ‘just give this guy a call’, and I talked to him for almost an hour. He just said some stuff I like that I wrote in my yardage book and I was flipping through that all week and looking at that, just little reminders. We always work on our golf swings and our short game and our putting but sometimes we forget to work on our mental game.

“I think for me, that’s an area where I know if I can get to this level of playing, it’s going to be kind of, you know, cage bar the doors. I feel like I’m ready to play at this level for a while.”

Question is, can List put Moose’s sage advice to use in the final round at Harbour Town? List been knocking on the door of the winner’s circle for some time.

Some would say he’s due.
