BC Partners Credit, the credit arm of BC Partners, today announced an initial committed investment in LIV Golf by funds advised on its platform.
BC Partners Credit says this investment is the first part of a targeted $US300 million in cumulative financing to help LIV Golf emerge from its restructuring as a fiscally strong, sustainable, team-focused golf league that complements the existing professional tours and contributes to the long-term potential of the sport. The next phase of LIV Golf, or LIV Golf 2.0, will feature players participating as equity owners of both the league and the teams – providing players with a direct stake in the league’s success.
Under an Amended Restructuring Support Agreement, BC Partners has agreed to extend the player milestone until October 25, providing additional time for the league to engage with players and their representatives on their ongoing participation in the league, as well as the 2027 playing schedule and anticipated competitive format changes.
“Our goal is to facilitate LIV Golf’s emergence from the restructuring process on sound financial footing and with renewed momentum heading into the 2027 season,” said Ted Goldthorpe, partner and head of BC Partners Credit. “Just as importantly, we want the players who make this league what it is to share in what they help build. Giving players real and actionable ownership in the league and the teams is a unique opportunity in professional golf, and it aligns everyone around the long-term success of the product for the game and for the fans.”
At the next hearing on Wednesday, October 14, the US Bankruptcy Court may approve the Amended RSA and supplemental financing. After court approval, that capital can begin supporting the critical operational planning and business processes required to activate LIV Golf 2.0 and deliver the 2027 LIV Golf season.
LIV Golf chief executive Scott O’Neil welcomed the key step forward.
“This investment is an important step forward for LIV Golf, and I want to thank Ted Goldthorpe and the entire BC Partners team for their conviction in what we’re building,” O’Neil said. “We believe deeply in the future of this league and in the opportunity to build something distinctive alongside our players. We’re delivering on our major milestones, and while there is still work ahead, today marks meaningful progress toward a player-owned, team-focused, truly global league that complements the wider game and creates new opportunities for players, fans, partners, and the next generation of golfers.”
BC Partners Credit says a central part of the vision for the next phase of LIV Golf is a commitment to grassroots efforts alongside nations, cities, and golf’s governing bodies. As part of this next phase, LIV Golf will aim to build on the league’s foundation and expand local programs that introduce new players to the game, support communities and create pathways for the next generation of golfers and fans.
A key feature of the next phase of LIV Golf is player ownership. Players will be equity owners of the league and the teams, providing them with a meaningful stake in the league’s growth and a direct voice in building its future. BC Partners Credit believes this unique structure will attract and retain top talent, strengthen team identity and align the long-term interests of players, owners and fans.
BC Partners Credit welcomes current and prospective LIV Golf players who share the vision for the league’s next chapter. Whether joining or continuing with LIV Golf, players who choose to be part of LIV Golf 2.0 will have the opportunity to participate not just as competitors, but as owners and partners with a meaningful stake in building a stronger, more sustainable, team-focused golf league.
“We are excited about what this next phase can mean for the players who compete in the league,” Goldthorpe said. “We invite those who want to help build a strong, sustainable, team golf league to join us.”
The financing by funds advised on the BC Partners Credit platform is subject to US Bankruptcy Court approval and customary conditions.
