Portsea Golf Club is an amazing golf destination at the end of Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. The golf course is ranked inside Australia’s top 50, and the club has made several improvements to ensure this ranking improves. The on-site Mercure Portsea accommodation at the club is a boutique, 24-room hotel and the clubhouse has breathtaking views across the course and Port Phillip Bay – making Portsea Golf Club a fantastic stay-and-play location.
First opened as a course to the public in late 1924, the club itself will celebrate its centenary in 2026 – and plans for a big year are well on the way. Course architects at Portsea have included Alex Russell, the Australian business partner to world-renowned Dr Alister Mackenzie; New Zealander Sloan Morpeth and the current course architects OCM, who have made a number of small changes to enhance the course.
The club successfully relaunched the Peninsula Sotheby’s Portsea Celebrity Pro-Am in January 2023, recently awarded the Victorian Metropolitan Pro-Am of the year, with a field that included PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit winner David Micheluzzi and celebrities such as Andy Lee and Max Gawn. The event is gearing up to be even better when hosted on January 3, 2024, with music and entertainment around the seventh hole, and a strong field of professionals and celebrities already committed.
Visitors are welcome (at no charge) to watch the pros and celebs battle the course, and people are encouraged to come and have their own Portsea experience on one of the country’s most unique layouts.Â
