How do you swing a golf club that’s too short for you, while you’re in the middle of a massive growth spurt, and still manage to play elite-level amateur golf?

That was the problem for six-foot-eight-inch (6’8″) Christo Lamprecht, one of the most intriguing amateur golfers in the game. He won the Amateur Championship in 2023, which exempted him into the 2023 Open Championship and 2024 Masters. He led the field in Driving Distance in both, and was low amateur at the 2023 Open.

This year, he turned pro—you could be hearing lots more about him soon.

You can see our full breakdown of his golf swing right here, or below if you keep scrolling.

In a nutshell…

  • A crazy fact: Christo Lamprecht started high school at five-foot-six-inches, and ended college at six-foot-eight-inches. “I felt like my swing changed every week,” he said of that period.
  • Equipment headaches: A good relationship with PING helped him get continuously fit for new clubs, but the USGA stipulated drivers can’t be longer than 48 inches, which was later reduced to 46 inches. Most players max out their drivers. At his height, Christo’s maxed-out driver was far too short for him compared with other players—the equivalent of a six-foot-one player using a seven wood.
  • Stable base: With a too-short driver and a wickedly-fast growth spurt, Christo learned to widen his stance and bend his knees more than other players. Whereas most golfers push their pelvis up almost two inches as they swing, Christo drops his down two inches.
  • Hints of legends: Lengends like Moe Norman and Byron Nelson had a similarly unique leg action.

  • Side-to-side: While that prevents Christo from launching up to create power, he became good at moving side-to-side. He ranks in the 92nd percentile in horizontal force during his swing.
  • The takeaway: It looks different, but Christo figured out how to build a swing around his body. It helped him use what he had, and not try to chase something he didn’t.
