Charley Hull has become one of the best – and most followed – players on the LPGA Tour in recent years. And certainly, the most likely to go viral. The good news for golf fans? It doesn’t seem like that will end anytime soon.

Ahead of this week’s HSBC Women’s World Championship, the 28-year-old Brit was asked about “retiring” and she seemed genuinely confused. Here’s the exchange from Hull’s pre-tournament press conference.

Q. I read an article a few months ago that you were retiring. What was that all about?

CHARLEY HULL: “I don’t think that’s about me, surely. Lexi is retiring but not me. Definitely not me. I’ll play golf until I’m on my deathbed.”

Clearly, Hull thought the reporter had mixed her up with Lexi Thompson, who retired as a full-time LPGA player at the end of 2024. And it’s possible that was the case. However, as GolfWRX points out, Hull did say this last October:

“Although I was born to play golf, and love it, I also can’t wait for the day when I retire and I can spend every day at home, settle down and have kids. That’s my goal in life. That would mean more to me than winning a major.”

Hmmm. That’s a lot different than playing golf until you’re on your “deathbed”.

What we do know is that Hull is one of the favourites – both in terms of betting and popularity – this week in Singapore. Anyway, her fans should just continue to enjoy her while they can.
