Cam Davis had never made more than $US462,300 ($615,000) in a PGA Tour event prior to this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic. But that number changed dramatically this morning when the 26-year-old Sydneysider shot a closing 67 to get into a three-way playoff at Detroit Golf Club with Troy Merritt and Joaquin Niemann.
With a birdie on the fifth extra hole, Davis wrapped up his first PGA Tour title and earned the $US1.35 million ($1.8m) winner’s cheque.
Just how big a payday was it for Davis? In 70 previous starts, he had earned a combined $US2.67 million ($3.55m).
