Reigning Australian Open champ Cam Davis is poised to snare a US PGA Tour card for next year courtesy of his victory at the Web.com Tour’s Nashville Open.

The 23-year-old from Sydney made light work of a six-shot deficit he faced teeing off on Sunday, firing a seven-under-par 65.

At 18 under, Davis bagged a one-shot victory over Josh Teater, Kevin Dougherty and Lanto Griffin.

“I kept holing putts even when the pressure was on,” a proud Davis said after his win.

Davis’ second victory as a professional comes just six months after he similarly overcame a six-shot deficit to fellow Australian Jason Day to lift the Stonehaven Cup at The Australian Golf Club.

Davis’ Nashville win, which came in only his fifth start on the US PGA Tour’s second tier circuit, lifts him to 14th on the Web.com Tour moneylist.

“Things have changed a lot. I went from having conditional status (on the Web.com Tour) and being lucky to get a start out here … to get this (win), it’s pretty sweet,” Davis said.

The top 25 on the Web moneylist at the conclusion of the regular season are guaranteed PGA Tour cards for the 2018/19 season.

They carry over their money into the finals series – where they can use the finals to improve their position among the PGA Tour’s priority ranking.

“Opportunities that come with winning and getting it done on this tour, push me towards the pga tour and that means a lot; it’s a big one,” Davis said.

Davis now turns his attention to the top flight, teeing up at this week’s Memorial Tournament in Ohio on a sponsor’s invitation.
