The PGA Tour resumes play for its final stretch of 2026, five straight weeks of events that will help determine who keeps their tour cards for 2027. It begins this week with the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, where Adam Schenk is back to defend his title after a one-stroke victory a year ago over Chandler Phillips.
This is the eighth playing of the event at Port Royal Golf Club, a quirky par-71 layout that measures just 6,828 yards. The Robert Trent Jones design’s best defense is winds that can blow a steady 30 mph on any given day.
Schenk won a year ago for his first career tour title in his 243rd start. He came into the week No. 134 in the FedEx Cup standings and moved up 67 spots to keep his tour status. He’s got a card through 2027, but he’s going to have to step up his play this week if he hopes to become the first repeat winner as he stands 163rd on the FedEx Cup points list this season, with just eight cuts made in 24 starts.
Being inside the top 100 in the FEC standings gets you a card for next season, and this week several of the bubble boys are trying to make sure they are safely inside that number before year’s end. Lee Hodges sits at No. 100, with Taylor Pendrith (96), Phillips (98), Max Greyserman (99) and 2022 winner Seamus Power (103).
Also in the field this week are a handful of amateur stand outs in Miles Russell and Mason Howell, both playing on sponsor’s exemptions, as well as BYU All-American Kihei Akina, who finished in the top-10 at the Baycurrent Classic to grab a spot in this week’s field. There’s also Austin Lemieux, son of hockey legend Mario Lemieux, who earned a spot through local qualifying.
This week’s winner will receive a $1.08 million cut of the $6 million purse.
