The inaugural DP World India Championship produced several sights golf fans weren’t used to seeing, from players like Rory McIlroy taking the driver out of their bags to others like Viktor Hovland dressing in a kurta to attend a Diwali party. (Hovland rocked that kurta, by the way.) And then there was the all-time club slam/throw by Brian Harman on Sunday… despite Harman hitting a great shot.
OK, so we should provide a bit of context to the viral video going around Golf X/Twitter. Harman teed off in the final round at Delhi Golf Club in contention. But after an opening triple-bogey, his tournament dreams were all but dashed.

On the 147-metre, par-3 fifth hole, the 2023 Open champion obviously wasn’t happy with the contact he made on his tee shot. And, combined with the frustration of that opening triple, cameras caught Harman hurling his club at the ground in disgust. It was a violent reaction to be sure, but what really caught everyone’s attention is that his golf ball wound up pin-high, about seven feet from the hole according to the DP World Tour’s shot tracker. Wild stuff.
Harman missed the birdie putt (the golf gods saw to that) and shot a closing 74 to fall into a tie for 26th place. No word on whether that club made the trip back to the US with him.
