The PGA Tour this week returns to one of the best events on the golf calendar – the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. This celebrity event sees amateurs and PGA Tour pros play alongside each other in two separate tournaments.

The pro am has a 54-hole cut and each competitor plays a round at Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill Golf Course and Monterey Peninsula Country Club’s Shore course before Sunday’s final round is played at Pebble Beach. Here’s who we fancy this week:

Jason Day $17

Although Day is still clawing back his once world-beating form (he was tied third at Torrey Pines last week) the Australian has always managed to contend at Pebble Beach – even when he’s had an off year. Day is still searching for his first win at the renowned California celebrity tournament, but he owns 10 top-15 results there. In his past two starts at Pebble Beach, he’s finished T7 and outright fourth. A very good bet.

Spieth is a past champion at Pebble Beach.

Jordan Spieth $19

At $19 Spieth can’t be ignored. He won it in 2017, and was T3 last year at Pebble and T9 the year before that. He’s a three time Major winner. What more do you want?

Patrick Cantlay $8.5

Cantlay is the favourite because he was made for Pebble Beach, he’s a birdie machine, straight off the tee and his irons are world-class – which is essential for two rounds at Pebble Beach’s small greens. Cantlay, a Californian, was T3 at Pebble last year. He is also in form in general; Cantlay was fourth at Kapalua a few weeks ago and ninth at the American Express.

Dark Horse: Michael Thompson $56

Thompson has been in sneaky form this year – T11 at Torrey Pines. He’s had three top 15s in his last five starts and was T10 at Pebble Beach in 2019.
