SHE’s always been beautiful. But Royal Adelaide Golf Club may never look as stunning as she will heading into the 2017 ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open.

The recent appointment of master designer Tom Doak and Renaissance Golf Design has already resulted in some noticeable improvements at the No.14-ranked layout in Australian Golf Digest’s Top 100 Courses.

“We engaged Tom Doak to steer the restoration of the course back to its former glory,” says Royal Adelaide general manager Andrew Gay. “A lot of work has been done on realigning tees and introducing a more consistent approach to bunker design, while we’ve expanded the mowing lines.”

Gay says the club has also been busy exposing many sections of sandy waste and reinstating areas of native vegetation, particularly within the out-of-play rough areas.

“There has been some form of work done on every hole except No.7,” he says. “We’ve also constructed a spare hole (17A) in preparation for the return of the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open and the club’s 125th Anniversary celebration in 2017. The changes to the course have been extremely well received by members and visiting golfers.”

Royal Adelaide is not planning any additional course improvements until 2018 so if you are visiting the South Australian capital, playing this superb links layout is a must.
