This week, you might notice a new sponsor on the right shoulder of Mackenzie Hughes:

The Buffalo Bills.

The Ontario native will be repping Bills Mafia at the RBC Canadian Open as part of a partnership with the NFL franchise. Given the Bills’ proximity to the RBC Canadian Open and Hughes’ longtime fandom, it seems like a match made in heaven, but as Hughes told TSN, this will be a one-and-done collaboration due to a bizarre NFL rule.

“It’s a fun one for this week,” Hughes explained. “The NFL has certain rules, so I can only wear this logo within 100 miles of Buffalo. That’s a serious rule … I’m in the circle. You gotta stay inside the boundary, If you get outside the boundary you’re going to get tased [joking].”

“So I couldn’t be in Charlotte playing the Truist [Championship] and wear this,” he continued. “Which I think is kind of a weird rule, but I understand it in some ways too. But yeah, for this week, I’m wearing the Bills logo, repping the Bills Mafia. I’m a big Bills fan, so I’m pretty proud to wear this logo.”

Leave it to the NFL to come up with a rule this arbitrary. Even the MLB, a league notorious for punitive blackout restrictions to protect its local markets, allows Cameron Young to parade its logo around the world. Go figure.

From the sound of things, Hughes would love to rock the logo of his beloved Bills on a weekly basis, but for now it’s just for this week. For the countless Bills fans across America—not to mention golf sicko Josh Allen—that’s probably disappointing, but if there were ever a week to circle the wagons, it’s this one.
