Six PGA Tour wins, including a Players, plus 13 top 10s in the majors and eight total appearances on the U.S. Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup teams is one hell of a career. But for critics of Rickie Fowler, that resume has never quite matched up with his status level in professional golf.

For most of his career, though, those critics have mostly lived on the internet, rarely if ever manifesting in real life. That or we just never saw any real-life Rickie hecklers because, believe it or not, there used to be a time when not everything was filmed on a smartphone.Â
That’s no longer the case in 2025. Already this golf season we’ve had footage of Rory McIlroy taking a heckler’s phone out of his hands and walking off with it at the Players Championship. At the PGA Championship, five-time major winner Brooks Koepka was filmed inviting a heckler to come down and say it to his face. Way back at the Cognizant Classic, Fowler had his first run-in with a mouthy fan this year, telling him “that’s why you’re in the stands.”
This past weekend at the Travelers Championship, Fowler had another run-in with a crowd-chirper when he hit a putt from off the green that came up well short. “Nice lag putt,” said the off-camera heckler, leading to a stare down for the ages:

“Easy to say over there buddy,” said Fowler’s caddie, Ricky Romano.Â
Man, poor Rick. He’s the last you’d assume would get heckled multiple times this year, but his haters have surely gotten confident enough, likely with the help of alcohol, to take aim.Â
