The 2025 US Open is over a month away. In fact, we still have another major to get through before we can really start looking ahead to Oakmont. Judging by the looks of things, however, it’s going to be a bloodbath.
On Tuesday, the USGA hosted US Open Media Day at the site of 2025’s third major, giving journalists and content creators a first look at the Oakmont setup. Inevitably, this resulted in the annual Rough Reveal™ courtesy of Barstool Sports personality Barstool Beef, who sent shivers down the spine of tour pros across the world with this video. Watch it and weep.

Lord have mercy. There’s still five weeks of grow time left and Oakmont’s rough is already gobbling up balls. We don’t expect the grounds crew to do too much pruning in the coming weeks either. This year’s US Open will be the record 10th hosted at Oakmont Country Club, and organisers will want the course to put up a hell of a fight to mark the occasion.
It is still early, though. A lot could change and, as Scottie Scheffler proved at TPC Craig Ranch last weekend, the fellas have been going LOW all season long. If the lettuce plays as nasty as it looks, though, expect sweet, sweet, glorious carnage come June.
