We have good news and bad news. The good news is that the WM Phoenix Open is back. The bad news—for the Scottsdale Police Department—is that the WM Phoenix Open is back. The rowdiest event on the PGA Tour schedule will return to TPC Scottsdale with hundreds of thousands of fans, the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world and hopefully a few less beers than last year.

A chaotic 2024 tournament week featured 54 arrests, 211 ejections and 653 emergency calls, which will hopefully cool down this go-around with some updated security measures, digital-only ticketing and an emphasis on public safety. With that said, we’re looking for (and expecting) a fun time and hopefully a down-to-the-wire finish that could rival the 2024 event.

Just one year ago, Nick Taylor bested Charley Hoffman with a birdie on the second playoff hole after a second-place finish for the Canadian in 2023. Taylor birdied three of his final four holes to sneak into the aforementioned playoff and will be back to defend his title. He even has a win already this season, emerging victorious at the Sony Open in Hawaii in … yes, another playoff.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler will continue his comeback from his freak hand injury, and he’ll be joined by top talents Hideki Matsuyama, Wyndham Clark, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth. Spieth appears to be a pretty big fan of TPC Scottsdale with five top-10 finishes in eight starts and back-to-back T-6s.
This week’s winner will receive a $1.656 million first-place prize money payout from the $9.2 million purse and 500 FedEx Cup points.

The famed home of the WM Phoenix Open boasts probably the most well-known stadium hole in golf: the par-3 16th. Tiger Woods’ hole-in-one in 1997 put it on the map for casual fans, who now flock to Scottsdale during Super Bowl week. The layout has architectural merit, too, with its risk-and-reward-filled back nine. Tom Weiskopf, who designed the course with Jay Morrish, has overseen renovations of the course—making tweaks to please the tour player and resort guest alike.
