In the second round of the Magical Kenya Open, dare we say something a bit, um, magical happened.

That’s when Ronald Rugumayo made a bit of DP World Tour history by becoming the first Ugandan golfer to make a cut. And he did it in clutch fashion with a closing birdie to shoot a one-under-par 70 at Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi.

Have a look – and listen – as the announcers and crowd celebrate the 31-year-old golfer who goes by the nickname “Mayo”:

“C’monnnnn, yes! That is just brilliant,” the commentator says in the clip. “What a roar as well. He’s got some fans out there!”

He certainly does. And now he’s got plenty more from around the world as his highlight spread on Golf Twitter.

Rugumayo, currently 2,901st in the Official World Golf Ranking, was obviously pumped to make his first DP World Tour cut considering he had made only two previous DP World Tour starts in the two previous Magical Kenya Opens (he made a hole-in-one during last year’s first round). But to do it on his home continent had to make it extra special.

Some more magic like this over the weekend and Mayo will be poised to make a big leap in the OWGR, not to mention a big cheque.
