Brad Clifton from Australian Golf Digest speaks with PXG’s Rus Kirchner to unpack PXG’s all-new Lightning driver series, the brand’s longest-ever drivers and a major evolution from the previous Black Ops range. The Lightning lineup features four distinct models – Tour, Tour Mid, Max 10K, and Max Light – each engineered for different swing speeds and performance goals. At the centre of the range is the Max 10K, a driver designed to push the legal limit of moment of inertia, delivering exceptional forgiveness while maintaining ball speed and launch efficiency.
Rus explains the technology behind the Lightning drivers, including PXG’s laser-etched clubface, which improves consistency in wet conditions, and a frequency-matched face design that enhances energy transfer for increased ball speed. A structural spine integrated through the carbon sole stiffens the face at the sweet spot, while a reworked weighting system and expanded carbon crown allow mass to be positioned low and back for maximum stability. Together, these design elements create a driver lineup built for speed, forgiveness and custom fitting, with each model tailored to suit a specific type of golfer.
