From volunteering to lead Titleist’s wedge project to helping golfers of all abilities enjoy the game, Bob Vokey reflects on the evolution of his iconic wedges and the moments that shaped their development.
Bob Vokey’s journey into wedge design began with a simple decision to put his hand up when Titleist decided to enter the wedge market. What started as a passion project has become a career dedicated to improving scoring clubs for golfers at every level.
Looking back, Vokey explained how his understanding of wedge design has evolved through player feedback and advances in technology. Each new generation has built on the last, with continual refinements to shaping, appearance and weight distribution helping improve performance.
He also shared some of the memorable moments along the way, including developing the K Grind with Adam Scott before Scott’s 2013 Masters victory and hearing from everyday golfers who found more enjoyment in the game after switching to Vokey wedges.
For Vokey, that remains the ultimate goal: creating equipment that helps both the world’s best players and recreational golfers play better and enjoy golf more.
