Kevin Na is known as one of the more, ahem, deliberate players on the US PGA Tour but he was entitled to take his time six years ago when he racked up a 16 – yes, 16 – on one hole at the Valero Texas Open.

Na set a US Tour single-hole record with his 12-over-par debacle on the ninth at TPC San Antonio, hacking around in the scrub beside the fairway before ending the carnage with a six-foot putt:

There was so much thrashing around in the bush that even the player himself wasn’t quite sure how many swings he’d taken.

“I got done with the hole and I said (to my caddie), ‘I think I made somewhere between a 10 and a 15,” Na said. “But I think it’s close to a 15.”

It turned out to be one more…

To his credit, Na was four-under for the other 17 holes he played that day, which made his eight-over-par 80 seem not quite so bad.
