It was a calculated risk but one that paid off for Brisbane Golf Club. It was the first club in Australia to switch its putting surfaces from Bermuda 328 to the Champion Ultradwarf Bermuda strain of grass, doing so during a 40-month program prior to the club hosting the 2016 Queensland Open. Champion is a variety better suited to the climate of south-eastern Queensland. But the grass is just one part of the Brisbane story.

Sustained redesign work conducted by course architect Ross Watson over several years brought the third oldest club in Queensland back into the Top 100 fold after an absence that spanned 2000 to 2014. These days, the Brisbane club and course continue to forge a reputation for excellence in Australia’s third largest city.
