The renaissance of Yarra Yarra is here – the Melbourne Sandbelt mainstay is just one Victorian course currently experiencing the Tom Doak touch. Doak’s firm has already reoriented the first six holes of the layout, and to positive reaction. The American’s work is part of a restoration of Alex Russell’s 1929 design and so far has focused on the reinstatement of Russell’s original bunkers, expanding several tees and returning the fairways to their prescribed widths. Best known for its collection of brilliant short holes, especially the 11th and 15th with their ingeniously canted greens, Yarra Yarra is on track to return to its glory days.
