PONTE VEDRA BEACH—Tom Kim has withdrawn from the Players Championship.

The PGA Tour announced Thursday morning that Kim, 21, had pulled out of the tour’s flagship event due to illness. No other details were provided.

Kim had completed eight holes of his first round when he dropped from competition. He was five over at the time, and was coming off a triple-bogey 6 at TPC Sawgrass’ famous 17th hole.

This was Kim’s second Players appearance, finishing T-31 in his tournament debut last year.

Kim is currently No. 18 in the Official World Golf Ranking but is off to a relatively slow start to his 2024 campaign, with just two top-25 finishes in seven starts this season.
