It is among the recognisable photos in golf, particularly for the diehard fan and even so for the casual viewer. In it are the young versions of Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth, best mates for life. Not sure you knew that.
In the photo, Thomas is famously munching on some sort of sandwich while looking at the camera. Spieth appears to be chattering away. You know the picture:
It’s been posted on the internet infinity times and referenced on television broadcasts infinity more. It’s an all-time great snapshot, don’t get us wrong, but many people have reached the “OK, we get it” point.
Welp, those same folks might want to brace themselves for the latest and greatest edition of “throwback photo of two current tour pros who grew up together and are now dominating the PGA Tour”, which just dropped. See if you can figure out who these two young pups are:
As you may have guessed, that’s Will Zalatoris on the left and Masters Scottie Scheffler on the right. The two grew up competing against one another in Texas, along with Spieth, who is three years older than both Zalatoris and Scheffler but was still a force on the junior scene when these two were on the rise.
While Zalatoris and Scheffler don’t seem to be as tight as Spieth and Thomas, they obviously know each other well and respect each other’s games. Considering how good they both appear to be, there’s no question this photo will be recycled an endless amount of times in the future, especially when either of them win or if they are both in contention. Them’s the rules:
Our thoughts exactly.
