In a wide-ranging interview, Martin Slumbers has spoken about whether Cameron Smith and other LIV golfers will be able to play in next year’s Open at Royal Liverpool.
Cameron Smith has rubbed salt into the wound, hilariously sledging Phil Mickelson for slow play after beating him 1 up in singles on day one at LIV Golf’s teams finale in Miami.
After a roller coaster few months, Cameron Smith can almost see the finish line of a wild 2022. An extended break in his native Australia is longingly in sight.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that last week, the entire roster of LIV golfers wrote a letter addressed to Peter Dawson, chairman of the OWGR board, calling for him to immediately award OWGR points to LIV events as well as award points retroactively for the five tournaments that have been played since the series began in June.
While playing on the PGA Tour, Cameron Smith earned $US3.6 million for his victory at the Players Championship in March, $2.5 million for winning the Open Championship in July and $1.476 million for his triumph at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in January.
Horschel has been a vocal supporter of the PGA Tour. He said he’d had discussions with Smith about the LIV reports but did not try to convince Smith to say.
Cameron Smith knows his work is cut out for him this week at the Tour Championship. If he wants to win the tournament—and by extension the FedEx Cup title—he will have to overcome a six-shot deficit to current points leader Scottie Scheffler.
