There are worse places to start your year than Hawaii. And so, 120 tour pros, including four of the top-10 ranked golfers in the world, will make their way to Honolulu for a January staple, the Sony Open at Waialae Country Club to kick of the 2026 PGA Tour season.
Those four—Russell Henley, J.J. Spaun, Robert MacIntyre and Ben Griffin—will be joined by Keegan Bradley, Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa and last year’s champ Nick Taylor, looking for his sixth career tour victory.

Now with The Greenbrier’s Old White course out of the rotation, Waialae Country Club is the only Seth Raynor design on the PGA Tour schedule. In the 1960s, much of the front nine had to be rerouted due to the construction of a nearby hotel, but many Raynor elements can still be found, particularly after Tom Doak and his Renaissance Design team’s work over the past decade-plus. Though the now iconic ‘W’s in the trees on the 16th hole (the club’s seventh) are the most recognizable feature of the course, true architectural buffs will appreciate the par-3 17th hole and its Redan green, plus the Biarritz on the fourth. Taylor won a year ago in a playoff with a birdie on the second extra hole, edging out Nico EchavarrÃa. It marked the third straight year that Taylor won a tour event in a playoff after the Canadian claimed his home country event at the the 2023 RBC Canadian Open and then won at TPC Scottsdale in the 2024 WM Phoenix Open. He’ll have a chance to become the first back-to-back winner of the Sony Open since Jimmy Walker in 2015.
This week’s winner will receive a $1.638 million cut of the $9.1 million purse and 500 FedEx Cup points.
