One common refrain you’ll hear from European fans on Ryder Cup week is that US fans don’t know how to banter. They aren’t creative with their chants and chirps. That’s why things tend to take an ugly turn on American soil, as over-served spectators resort to name-calling and personal attacks.

Well, folks, the Europeans may have cooked with that take.

If this video from the first tee Saturday morning is any indication, Europeans have never been more right about anything. Mistake No.1 is the US side having an MC trying to coach the crowd on what to say or sing in an awful game of Simon Says. Mistake No.2 was how this person tried to joke around with the fans as they began clapping:

“Slow down, slow down, you guys all took adderrall this morning…” she said.

Woof. And finally, mistake No.3 – trying to sing “SCOT-TIE SCOT-TIE .. SCHEFFLER!” to the tune of “We Will Rock You”:

Good LORD. That might be the most cringeworthy moment in Ryder Cup history. They boo’d her! The second attempt was even more painful. Just a brutal watch.

A good rule of thumb with this stuff is that if you have to try this hard to get people to cheer in unison, don’t bother. Just let them handle it on their own.
