And we’re back.
Although we’re just a few weeks out from Tommy Fleetwood’s inaugural PGA Tour win at the Tour Championship that also gave him the FedEx Cup title, the PGA Tour is back for the fall finish … starting with this week’s Procore Championship. Once the Fortinet Championship, the Safeway Open and the Fry’s Electronics Open, this week’s event at Silverado Resrot in Napa, Calif., is set to host six of the top 10-ranked golfers in the world, all warming up for the upcoming Ryder Cup.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is in the field, as is Sam Burns, Patrick Cantlay, Harris English, Ben Griffin, Russell Henley, Collin Morikawa, J.J. Spaun, Justin Thomas and Cameron Young. That’s the entire American Ryder Cup squad, except for two: Bryson DeChambeau isn’t eligible to partake, and Xander Schauffele has a very good excuse for missing what’s doubling as a team-building week. The No. 1-ranked amateur and recent Walker Cup victor Jackson Koivun will travel up the road from Cypress Point to compete as an amateur and see if he can build off the three top-11 finishes he’s had in PGA Tour events this summer.
Last year’s champ, Patton Kizzire, won his first PGA Tour event after a six-year drought and will return for a chance to go back-to-back. It took 176 starts for Kizzire to get it done (for the third time), but a 20 under was more than enough, leading to a five-shot victory.
This week’s winner will receive 500 FedEx Cup points and a $1.08 million cut of the $6 million purse.
