As we saw at the recent Cognizant Classic, Joe Highsmith can close out a golf tournament. Turns out, he also knows his PGA Tour history. Well, recent PGA Tour history, at least.
On Wednesday, Highsmith received a pair of Tiffany cufflinks for qualifying to play in his first Players Championship. And he got the fancy (customary) gift from PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan himself.

It would have been a cool moment regardless, but Highsmith got the commish to crack up by saying, “Eight grand?” Have a look and listen:

“Good recall,” Monahan said with a laugh. “Good recall.”
If you’re confused right now then you don’t remember the greatest prank in PGA Tour history. Back in 2022, Phil Marburger, then vice president of player relations, went around telling all the rookies that they had to pay more than $8,000 for the cufflinks. Which led to some classic reactions, in particular from Stephan Jaeger and Sahith Theegala. Let’s take a trip down memory lane, shall we?!
Enjoy your new cufflinks … here's the bill 🤣

Man, that’s still just as good three years later. And Sahith couldn’t have protested the payment any nicer. Of course, after pocketing about $16 million last year alone, Sahith would have probably had a different reaction.
In any event, nice job by Joe. Anytime you can get the big boss to laugh at one of your jokes, you’re doing something right. Enjoy those cufflinks, young man.
