The funny reason this PGA Tour pro is playing a Monday qualifier after forgetting to register for the actual event

Mark Hubbard is coming off the most consistent season of his PGA Tour career, making 21 of 23 cuts and qualifying for the FedEx Cup Playoffs for a third consecutive year while earning more than $2 million. And yet that same Mark Hubbard is teeing it up in a Monday qualifier for this week’s Procure Championship to start the fall portion of the schedule. In other words, something’s not adding up.

Turns out, the 35-year-old may have cut down on his on-course mistakes, but off the course he made a big bogey. Hubbard forgot to register for the fall opener in Napa. And according to Ryan French, AKA Twitter’s Monday Q Info, he missed the deadline by a mere 20 minutes.

Ouch. We’re not sure if that makes it better or worse. Regardless, we’ll give Mark a pass here because the PGA Tour’s offseason lasted, well, about 20 minutes.

Good for Mark for going the extra mile to try to qualify for a tournament he was qualified for and one that he finished T-17 at last year when it was still called the Fortinet Championship. And he certainly doesn’t seem too upset about the situation.

Although, in another plot twist, there’s another good reason for him making the trip to the Bay Area:

OK, now it makes more sense. Anyway, enjoy Monday Night Football, Mark, and good luck getting a Thursday tee time. Oh, and congrats on that pop-a-shot record.
