A PGA Tour pro’s caddie quit in the middle of a round on Thursday. And he didn’t even tell his boss before leaving.
Alejandro Tosti lost his looper as he was about to make the turn during the opening round of the Biltmore Championship, as reported by Golfweek. The 30-year-old Argentinian started on the back nine at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove with Cliff Ellis on his bag but finished the 18th hole and his second nine down a man.

“He couldn’t keep up with eight pars in a row,” Tosti joked, adding three laughing emojis when reached via text by Golfweek’s Adam Schupak after.
Schupak reports Tosti and Ellis clashed during Tuesday’s practice round, but that Ellis’ mid-round departure still took the tour pro by surprise. Tosti thought Ellis was just taking a bathroom break on the 18th hole, but he never returned.
While it’s unclear what exactly went down on Thursday, Tosti has a reputation for being a fiery player who changes caddies often. He was suspended during the 2023 Korn Ferry Tour playoffs for conduct unbecoming a professional.
In 2025, Tosti appeared to stage a protest against playing partner Min Woo Lee’s pace of play at the Texas Children’s Houston Open. Tosti also made news earlier this year when he had his caddie wear a bib that says “NEED A WIFE” during the Valspar Championship, a tournament that promotes creative caddie bibs.
Tosti shot a one-over-par 72 in the first round of the Biltmore Championship, where Max Greyserman and Eric Cole led the way after Day 1 at seven under. Tosti has a 1:49 Friday tee time for the second round, which gives him ample time to find a second caddie.
