If you were too distracted by the hot, hot happenings of Cognizant Classic qualifying to pay attention to the Asian Tour this week, we don’t blame you. If you did take a peek at the International Series Oman leaderboard this morning, however, you probably found a lot of familiar LIV Golf names near the top, including Mito Pereira, Matthew Wolff, Louis Oosthuizen and Peter Uihlein. Uihlein in particular sat T-3 after the close of play in the second round, but don’t let that fool you. It wasn’t all smooth sailing for the freelancing RangeGoat, who had to conjure up one of the most ridiculous par saves you will ever see en route to his second-round 66. Grab your thongs and sunscreen and check it out.

When your tee shot ends up somewhere that’s literally under the ocean for most of the day, you know you’re in trouble. But Uihlein didn’t bat an eye and, thanks to the Asian Tour’s shorts policy, he didn’t even have to roll up his pants. He simply clambered down onto the beach and hacked it back onto the fairway.

Back in business right? Wrong. Uihlein then managed to hit a third shot that was almost as heinous as his first, chunking it short and left of the green, leaving himself almost no choice but to pitch it 30 feet past the hole and lag it up for bogey. But as you’ve probably already guessed, there’s was no lag and no bogey forthcoming. Uihlein stepped up and jarred the putt, to the surprise of himself as much as anyone.

It’s a shame this was a bit of a “if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to see it” scenario, but credit where credit is due. Regardless, this will go down as one the greatest par saves of 2024, even if we’re the only ones who remember it.
