THE raising of the Australian flag a TPC Sawgrass was yet another reminder of our nation’s dominance in world golf. It followed a week where world No.1 Jason Day went wire-to-wire to claim The Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida.

With a 15-under par total, Day stepped up this week to claim the ‘fifth Major’ by four shots over American Kevin Chappell. It was Day’s 10th victory on the US PGA Tour.

Asked where The players ranks among his most special victories, Day said it was “up there”.

“This is up there … I’ll hold this memory for a long time.” Day said after his round.

“It’s very difficult (to win with the pressure of world No.1); trying to balance off-course stuff to compete at the highest level and managing media and fans,” said Day. “But I’m very motivated to stay No.1 (and) this win gives me a bigger gap between one and two.”
