Lukas Michel put another notch on his outstanding amateur record, while Lion Higo dominated the field in the women’s event at the Master of the Amateurs tournament in Melbourne on Friday.

Michel, 25, won the men’s title by two shots after making birdies at the final two holes for a closing 69 in the 72-hole event at Victoria Golf Club.

Having made his name by competing in the Masters tournament last year, Michel shot four rounds of par or better to post six-under par overall.

He won by two shots from Tasmanian Ryan Thomas, who also closed with 69 today. Thomas threatened Michel at times but could only make par at the par-five 18th.

Victorian Konrad Ciupuk, the 2016 Victorian boys’ champion, was third at three under par.

The Gold Coast’s Higo, 17, who recently won the Queensland Amateur championship, shot a closing 70 today to win the women’s event by a stunning six shots.

Victorian Stephanie Bunque shot the day’s low round, a 69, to finish runner-up.
