A South Carolina man attempting to bypass the rules to secure a Masters badge found himself in jail on Monday. According to Augusta Press, a 36-year-old from Easley, South Carolina, was arrested for criminal trespassing after deputies said he approached patrons leaving Augusta National and asked for their tickets.

The man was walking along Washington Rd and targeting patrons who had left the grounds, requesting their physical badge.

Augusta National Golf Club has tightened restrictions on badges after resale tickets have spiralled out of control in recent years, selling on secondary markets for thousands, even tens of thousands of dollars for tournament weekend days. Approaching patrons for badges to exploit reentry privileges is an obvious no-no.

The man, named Matthew Stroud, was asked to leave by Richmond County sheriffs but returned later. He was transported to the Charles B. Webster Detention Centre and released on a $US285 bond.
