AUGUSTA, Ga. — We’d bet you’ve heard that Scottie Scheffler and his wife, Meredith, are expecting their first child. And with their due date being in a few weeks, Scheffler is ready to leave the Masters to be with his wife if she goes into labor early. Even if he’s in the middle of his round, word will get to him—and he said Tuesday he’ll be ready to fly out.
You’d expect the Schefflers to be very prepared for this next stage of life. The hottest player in the world has been methodical in his rise to the top of the world rankings. So to hear Scheffler admit that he was underprepared for something, which he did after his opening-round 6-under 66 on Thursday, was shocking.

Turns out, the Schefflers are like a lot of his young parents—procrastinating a little bit as they rush to get all the final preparations ready before their lives change forever.
“People have asked us how our preparation is going for the baby. I feel like, well, we are a little underprepared,” Scheffler told the media after his round. “The nursery is not quite ready and we’ve had some issues at our house the last few weeks. I think that’s the exciting part. I think we are definitely underprepared to be parents.”
When you think about it, it checks out. The 27-year-old has already played 10 events in 2024 ahead of the Masters—so he’s been on the road for most of the year. Undoubtedly, having the time to decorate a nursery, build a crib, get all the essentials lined up for the newborn, etc., have taken a back seat to preparing for the biggest tournament of the year.

The 2022 Masters champion proved on Thursday his preparation for Augusta National has been spot-on. But that might’ve come at the expense of some daddy duty. We’re sure the Schefflers will figure it out. Don’t worry, Scottie … you have a few more weeks … maybe.
