Predicting who’ll win the US Amateur is a fool’s errand, the eventual champion needing to successfully navigate nine rounds of golf in seven days to claim the Havemeyer Trophy. Ranked fifth in the world, England’s Luke Poulter, however, is as good a bet as any this week at Merion Golf Club outside Philadelphia. Good enough for Liberty National Golf Club to sign him as its latest ambassador, the name, image and likeness deal officially announced shortly before the 22-year-old teed off overnight (Australian time) in his first round of strokeplay.
Son of veteran tour pro Ian Poulter and a rising senior at the University of Florida, Luke will wear the club logo this week, as will another top-ranked amateur, Miles Russell. They are joined by several up-and-coming female players, including world No.1 Kiara Romero, former US Women’s Amateur winner Megha Ganne, LPGA Tour rookie Yana White and US Girls’ Junior champion Aphrodite Deng, who the club that sits in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty along the Hudson River in Jersey City, New Jersey, supports.
The club’s decision to add Poulter to its NIL roster is based on both his on-course talent (he’s already been picked to play on the Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup team for a second straight year) but also his ability to have an impact off the course too, according to Liberty National co-founder Dan Fireman.
“We believe strongly in supporting the next generation of the game,” Fireman said. “That commitment goes well beyond NIL partnerships. These are so many talented young players coming through junior, amateur and professional golf, and we want to help create opportunities for them to grow, compete and take the next step in their careers.
“Just as important, we want to align ourselves with quality people who represent the game the right way and who also want to be part of what we’re building through the Liberty National Foundation to make a meaningful impact on and off the course. It’s exciting for our club to build relationships with these players early, follow their journeys and hopefully play a small part in helping them reach their potential.”

Earlier this year, Poulter competed in the Arnold Palmer Cup, and was voted by his peers the winner of the Michael Carter Award for his attitude and spirit. The honour comes with an exemption into next year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational event at Bay Hill. Poulter also supports his family’s annual charity event that raising money to provide holidays to children with illnesses and disabilities.
According to the club, Poulter’s partnership will include his support of Liberty National Foundation initiatives, engagement with club members and enhancing the member experience through his presence and involvement.
“Giving back has always been important to me, and my mum and dad have both been strong influences in that,” Poulter said. “I feel very fortunate that this role gives me another opportunity to help others. I’m also looking forward to getting to know the members, spending time with them and having some fun along the way. At the end of the day, that’s what golf is all about and why we love this game.”
Liberty National opened in 2026 and was the site of the 2017 Presidents Cup. It currently hosts the LPGA Tour’s Mizuho Americas Open and next year will hold a PGA Tour FedEx Cup Playoff event for the fifth time as the site of the 2027 BMW Championship.
