The LPGA Tour on Friday announced its newest tournament, the FM Global Championship. The 72-hole event with a 144-player field will take place at the end of August in 2024 at TPC Boston. This is the first time the LPGA has had a tournament in Boston since 1997.

The FM Global Championship is already making a name for itself by offering the seventh largest purse on tour. Only the majors and the tour championship offer more than the FM Global Championship’s $3.5 million purse.

The tournament follows a larger trend of the Boston area supporting women’s sports, and it’s a movement the LPGA is excited to be a part of.

“With this event, the new National Women’s Soccer League team and the new Professional Women’s Hockey League team, the momentum for women’s sports in the Boston area is undeniable,” LPGA commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan said. “We can’t wait to team up with our newest partner, FM Global, to bring the world’s best female golfers to one of America’s great sports regions.”

Though the LPGA hasn’t played in Boston recently, TPC Boston is no stranger to hosting professional golf events. The course, which was redesigned by Gil Hanse in 2007, has hosted 17 PGA Tour events, most recently, the 2020 Northern Trust.
