It’s always great to hear the passion that sports brings out in fans. That same passion often pours out of announcers too, especially when history is made.
Enter French announcers.
Matthieu Pavon hit an amazing iron shot onto the 18th green today at Torrey Pines from thick rough to set up a birdie attempt from eight feet to win the Farmers Insurance Open. He had just missed a three-footer for par on the 17th green and then looked shaky after his first two shots on the par-5 home hole.
Pavon, 31, then muscled an 8-iron from 142 metres and made the putt to win, becoming the first Frenchman to win a PGA Tour event. It was also only his third tour start of his rookie season.
The French radio announcers went berserk. And you can listen to it here:

“Yes, yes,” said Adrien Toubiana in French. “Fabulous.”
Other parts of it said in an excitable tone include:
“You are a champion, Matthieu.”
“You have an enormous heart.”
“You are simply a great one.”
“With talent, with his heart, he gets the win.”
Great stuff all around. Pavon made history for his country today in California and it was punctuated by proper jubilation.
